Our route

Our road trip to Mount Rushmore and back to Denver took us a week.

During that time we travelled approximately 1500 miles - give or take - as we did a lot of shorter tours around the areas we stopped in.

The trip:
Friday - arrive Denver, travel to Scottsbluff
Saturday - explore Scottsbluff, travel to Rapid City
Sunday - explore around Rapid City. Rapid City Sunday night
Monday - travel to Cheyenne. Stay in Cheyenne one night
Tuesday - travel to Steamboat Springs. Stay in Steamboat Springs two nights
Wednesday - explore around Steamboat Springs
Thursday - travel to Denver. Stay in Denver Thursday and Friday nights
Friday - explore Denver
Saturday - fly back to Houston

Here's a link to a Google 'story' about our trip.

Through Nebraska to Scottsbluff

We flew from Houston to Denver and picked up a hire car at Alamo.

I have to say that the Alamo experience was very good - would recommend them and use them again.

The drive was long, not too boring but a lot of very straight road. Nearer Scottsbluff, our destination for the night, the landscape became more interesting and craggy.

We spent the night in the Comfort Inn - you can read my review. We had a few beers in Backaracks which was a pleasant and busy enough place to pass an hour or so.  Finished off the day with a batch of wings - actually a double batch as we got the 'wrong kind' first time round!

Scottsbluff was explored the next day along with Chimney Rock.

Here are all the images from Scottsbluff, Chimney Rock and around.

Scottsbluff images - 28 pics
Chimney Rock images - 5 pics
